DEAN Technology Files New Enterprise Standard for Distributed Fiber Optic Temperature Sensing Instrument
Publication Date:November 14, 2012

On November 14, 2012, a new enterprise standard for DEAN Technology's distributed fiber optic temperature sensing instrument was officially filed.

The filing represents an early documented milestone in the company's development of distributed fiber optic temperature sensing technology.

Early Development of Distributed Fiber Optic Temperature Sensing

Distributed fiber optic temperature sensing uses optical fiber as a continuous sensing medium to measure temperature conditions along the monitored route.

Unlike conventional systems based primarily on individual point sensors, Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) can provide temperature information at multiple locations along an optical fiber, making it suitable for continuous temperature monitoring across extended assets and infrastructure.

A Documented Technology Milestone

The 2012 enterprise standard filing provides historical documentation of DEAN Technology's development of distributed fiber optic temperature sensing instruments.

In fact, DEAN Technology's website contains an even earlier record: in November 2008, the enterprise standard for its Continuous Distributed All-Fiber Temperature Sensing Instrument was revised and filed.

Together, these records provide documented evidence of the company's early development activities in distributed fiber optic temperature sensing.

Continued Development of Distributed Temperature Sensing Technology

Since these early milestones, DEAN Technology has continued to develop fiber optic temperature sensing products and applications.

Today, the company's product portfolio includes a Distributed Fiber Optic Temperature Sensing System, while its application portfolio covers temperature monitoring in electric power, transportation, pipelines, petrochemical facilities, water conservancy and other industrial and infrastructure environments. DSC's current Chinese website continues to list the Distributed Fiber Optic Temperature Sensing System as a core fiber optic sensing product.
