DEAN Technology successfully completed a research project focused on the application of distributed fiber optic temperature sensing to electric trolleybus power supply systems.

DEAN Technology participated in the research project in 2017 as part of a technology initiative focused on the operation and maintenance support system for electric buses.

The research investigated how distributed fiber optic temperature sensing could be applied to the power supply systems used for trolleybus operation. The project successfully completed its final acceptance in December 2018, and the research results were subsequently implemented in trolleybus applications. 

Distributed Temperature Sensing for Electric Transit Power Systems

Reliable power supply infrastructure is essential for the safe and continuous operation of electric public transportation systems.

Temperature monitoring can provide important information about the operating condition of electrical infrastructure by helping operators identify abnormal temperature changes that may require inspection or maintenance.

Distributed fiber optic temperature sensing uses optical fiber as a continuous sensing medium, enabling temperature measurements to be obtained along the monitored route rather than relying solely on individual point sensors.

This makes the technology suitable for applications involving long or distributed electrical infrastructure where continuous temperature visibility is required.

Research into Trolleybus Power Supply Monitoring

The research project focused specifically on applying distributed fiber optic temperature sensing to the power supply systems used by trolleybuses 

The objective was to study how fiber optic temperature monitoring technology could support the operation and maintenance of electric transit power infrastructure.

Through the research project, DEAN Technology participated in evaluating the application of distributed temperature sensing under the requirements of electric bus operation and maintenance.

From Research to Real-World Implementation

An important outcome of the project was its progression beyond research.

The project successfully completed final acceptance in December 2018, and according to the original project report, the research results were subsequently implemented in trolleybus applications 

This provides practical evidence of the application of distributed fiber optic temperature sensing technology to transportation-related electrical infrastructure.

Fiber Optic Temperature Monitoring for Critical Infrastructure

Distributed fiber optic temperature sensing can be used in applications where continuous thermal monitoring across extended infrastructure is important.
